Strategy and Tactics of Leading a Volunteer or Combination Fire/Rescue Organization

VCOS Educational Workshop

Pierce Fire Apparatus and the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS) of the International Association of Fire Chiefs are pleased to offer an educational training course designed by practicing chief officers that delivers real world expertise through an interactive educational experience. The course is titled "Beyond Hoses and Helmets – Strategy and Tactics of Leading a Volunteer or Combination Fire/Rescue Organization." The United States Fire Administration and the National Emergency Training Center provided technical support in the development of course material and supporting documents.

The support offered by Pierce Fire Apparatus allows VCOS instructors to present this course throughout the nation in an effort to support the VCOS mission - to provide chief officers who manage volunteers within the fire/rescue/delivery system with information, education, services and representation to enhance their professionalism and capabilities.

Our vision is to be the leading international organization with sustained performance in representing the interests of the professionals who staff Volunteer and Combination Fire Departments. We will be a dynamic organization, characterized by our integrity, customer focus, membership growth, the value placed on people and superior application of technology. Due to ever-increasing popularity, the VCOS Leadership Course schedule is already filling up for 2008. Our normal delivery of courses is between 20 - 25 courses per year, depending upon the costs of each course, and we currently have 18 course requests for 2008.

As of November 12, 2007, no more requests for courses will be accepted for 2008. Please check this website again no earlier than May 1, 2008 when we can determine our actual costs for the 1st quarter and will be able to forecast whether we can accept any new courses for the remainder of the year.

Thanks to all our "satisfied customers" for spreading the word of the VCOS "Beyond Hoses and Helmets" course; we wish we could bring our leadership course to every agency which requests it, but we must adhere to good financial management of our resources.
